Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 6 months, chances are you’re aware of the ongoing feud between Samsung and Apple. It all started with Apple filing a patent infringement suit against the Korean company for copying its products’ designs.

The lawsuits have turned out to be a nightmare for Samsung, as it has been banned from selling its Galaxy tablet in multiple countries including Germany and Australia. And apparently, it could have avoided all of this with a few simple design changes…(...)

Why Piracy Hurts the Jailbreak Community

A recent post by jailbreak developer Filippo Bigarella really hit me. Filippo is a relatively well-known developer in the jailbreak community, and his most recent app, Springtomize 2, has been making huge splashes since its public release yesterday.

We have a great relationship with Filippo at iDB, and I consider him a friend. He’s a good guy who makes incredible software. His stance on pirating Springtomize says a lot about how piracy hurts the jailbreak community.(...)

iPhone 4S to Launch in Several More Countries December 16th

Last month, Apple rolled out its latest handset in 15 new countries, bringing the total number of eligible countries to 44. The company has said that it plans to have the iPhone 4S in more than 70 countries by the end of the year.

It certainly seems like Apple is on pace to hit that goal before the December 31st deadline. MacRumors is reporting that the company plans to release the iPhone 4S to several new countries on the 16th of this month…(...)

Bad Battery Life Issues Remain in iOS 5.1

Despite selling iPhones like they’re going out of fashion, it’s not been all unicorns and rainbows for Apple’s big releases recently. Some of the company’s top software outings have suffered a bloody nose as of late, with iCloud and iOS experiencing more than a few hiccups.

Released alongside the iPhone 4S, iOS 5 has taken an aging mobile operating system and added some much needed bells and whistles. The software also fixes some of the long-standing issues that iPhone owners have been complaining about for far too long.

One thing that iOS 5 has introduced is not entirely welcome, and that’s a very real battery life problem…(...)

German Leaders Question Apple Over Carrier IQ Use

The Carrier IQ fallout continues as more and more information surfaces about the smartphone spyware. The user-tracking software was exposed earlier this week when a 25 year old systems administrator posted a startling video of it in action.

Syria Bans the iPhone in Effort to Block Protesters From Exposing Violence

In a move aimed at preventing Syrian protesters from capturing photos and videos of the violence in the country to in turn share with the rest of the world, Syria has officially banned the iPhone, as reported by The Next Web:

Syrian authorities have banned the use of iPhones in the country, restricting the use of the device by activists to document government violence, Lebanese website Al Nashara reports.

Activists within the country are now being served with notices from the Customs Department of the Syrian Finance Ministry, stating that iPhones are now banned. The notice reads: "The authorities warn anyone against using the iphone in Syria."

Over 4,000 civilians have died since the beginning of 2011 in Syria, all of them killed by their own government.
