Not in the usage info on the iPhone. It knows nothing of billing cycles.

You are correct, they only know about the data usage while you are using the cellular data account for the device. If you are using WiFi, you are using the data for whatever is on the other end of the WiFi, probably your computer connection at home or say the Starburnt Coffee WiFi.

I do the same thing, Alice. I'm grandfathered in to the Unlimited ATT plan. At this point I use 3G data very little on my iPhone, so they're making plenty of $$ on me. I've considered downgrading to 200MB/month to save $15/month. But when we do travel, we use the MapQuest navigation app a lot. And I know that eats up data time. A dilemma.

I too have the unlimited data plan with AT&T. For the first time last month, I exceeded 2g's of data usage. I am usually just shy of 1G monthly. I received a threatening text message from AT&T stating that I am now considered in the top 5% of excessive data users and if I exceed 2g's again, they will limit the speed at which I download data. They advised that I downgrade to the 2G plan and then pay for additional if I exceed so that the speed at which I download will not be affected. This sounds like extortion to me! What's the point of unlimited if you can't use it? And I really don't appreciate being threatened like that, especially it being the one and only time I've even come close to 2g's for any given month. Like stated below, they have gotten plenty of money from me due to the fact that I rarely exceed 1g monthly.
I've considered going to Verizon, but I was told they too wil threaten if 2g is approached. They should upgrade the equipment to handle smart devices!

The cost of, for example, TomTom USA, with all the map data included in the app, would be paid for in 4 months by the difference between those two data plans.

I also have a calendar problem. I use only the iCloud calendar to prevent duplicates and it works fine except that the grid lines and times are so faint they can hardly be seen. The events are normal clarity. I have searched for some setting to darken the grid & times to no avail. Anyone know how I can fix it? I'm afraid to change calendars because this is the first one that has synced well.

Thanks for the reply, Bill. I figured the ATT/Verizon difference wasn't salient, but I wasn't sure.
Nancy is new to iPhone though she does have an iPad 1. iCloud is turned off on both machines. I don't think she has been using the Calendar app on the iPad or her Mac. So there wouldn't be anything to sync anyway.
I checked her Settings. everything seemed OK, no different from mine except for iCloud being turned off. iCloud is supposed to be optional syncing, isn't it? I can't see how having it turned off would render Calendar inoperable. I'm stumped.
Calendar does pick up Birthdays from the Contacts app. So it is functioning on one level. Any idea what part of Settings could cause Calendar to lose function like this? I don't know where to look.

The bookmark bar is just a convent place to put often uses links. On the PC
it saves clicks getting to the link.

Problem with iPhone 4s reception
Posted by: "walker_nospam" walker_nospam@yahoo.com walker_nospam
Wed Jan 4, 2012 11:35 am (PST)
Hi, all! Here's a weird problem, and my husband says it's the fault of my Verizon iPhone 4s. He has a Droid, also on Verizon.
He has no problem with getting enough bars in several places throughout the house for good reception. I, on the other hand, am frustrated beyond belief -- I cannot make or receive calls without problems with hearing or dropping! And I haven't been on my contract for that long, and I dread putting up with this for almost two years more!
My previous (and ancient) iPhone on AT&T had bad reception here as well, but we put in some kind of a cable/antenna thingie and it was AMAZING! My ATT&T now gave me 4 and 5 bars! No more issues. It was heaven!
Then when I got the new iPhone, back to frustration. Is there something I could do/buy to get good reception again? If my husband's Droid gets good reception here through Verizon, how come my iPhone 4s doesn't?
Is he right? Is it the phone's fault?
Thanks in advance for any advice! :-)

The "thingie" was a micro cell. ATT gives they away free in certain reception areas. You might see if Verizon has them, you might have to pay, but it might solve your problem.
Antennagate is a thing of the past. I've found iPhone 4 (and 4S) reception to be great. Of course that is ATT.
Before getting the micro cell, I had to use the soda can reflector trick in the house on occasion.

With the Verizon micro cell, it has a requirement of 300k up... I
had one and we can not get more than 256k up and so we got broken
speach, echos, and drop outs. Verizon gave me my micro cell, but
since I could not get fast enough service, they let me out of my
contract.

The "thingie" was a micro cell. ATT gives they away free in
certain reception areas. You might see if Verizon has them, you
might have to pay, but it might solve your problem.
Antennagate is a thing of the past. I've found iPhone 4 (and 4S)
reception to be great. Of course that is ATT.
Before getting the micro cell, I had to use the soda can
reflector trick in the house on occasion.

If your AT&T service was satisfactory, why did you switch to Verizon?
