No Daly, it was me. I started this thread. I got my answer from a Apple Discussion thread I also started.
Paste either of these two commands into Terminal. If you are not fluent in Terminal command, copy and paste it into terminal or they won't work.
find /Applications -type f -name *.jar
find /Applications -type d -name *.app -prune -exec sh -c 'ls -R "$1" | grep -q \.jar\$' {} {} \; -print
The first will give you a list of every component of every application that uses Java, in path form. The second will give you a list of just every application that uses Java, in path form.

Correction: I started the thread on how to tell if an app used Java. Randy started the one with this subject line on the iomug list.

Could it be because Handbrake will not copy copy-protected material?

Handbrake, as opposed to other 'ripping' programs, DOES rip copy protected material, with the assumption that it will only be used for personal viewing by the owner, only. It uses some of VLC's library files to do it's work and it's quite good and fast for a freeware program.
It can also convert filetypes rather efficiently, video that is.

I have it an only run it when I decide to. That way performance isn't affected on it's schedule but mine.
I tell it to scan the boot drive only and walk away for a while.

iPhoto (when downloaded from App Store on iPad)

Hello,
I have recently purchased the new iPad.
I can't find iPhoto on the iPad pre-installed so I am assuming I have to pay for it and download it? Also, is it worth it? The reason I ask is because the App Store 'reviews' aren't that flattering! Having said that I do really like the iMac version of iPhoto!

If you go to the AppStore in iTunes, you will find that iPhoto costs $4.99. But I don't know why you would want it unless you want to edit your photos a bit on the mobile device. Otherwise, you can see all your photos on the mobile device anyway, in the "Photos" app, which comes with the operating system.

Hi there,
I like how you can have your photos in a folder with iPhoto. Can I do this without iPhoto using the iMac?

Sure on your iMac just set up a new album and drag your pictures there. You can also set up smart albums. Also in iTunes make sure the iPad is set to sync all the albums.

I think so. For this drive, Disk Utility says:
Capacity: 50GB
Used: 19.5GB
Available: 30.5GB

That is impressively tiny. For example, my Macbook Pro internal drive adds up to just under 15 GB if I exclude the entire Developer folder AND the Users folder.
And I'm running Lion, which means that all of the applications and frameworks are pure Intel, not "fat binary" Intel + PPC (i.e., smaller than their Tiger equivalents).

Actually, there was some discussion a while back of using bare drives
in a drive dock (with some input from Randy, IIRC), and I'm going to
have to take a closer look at this.

Andrew,
I use an ageing(!) PowerBook, which came with an 80 GB drive. I long ago
shifted my iTunes and iPhoto libraries to a NAS, but still get these
figures for my internal drive:-
Available: 32.4 GB
Used : 42.0 GB
OK, I've built up lots of stuff over the years, but even so, I think 19.5
GB is very small. I also find 50 GB to be an odd size. I remember drives
going from 40 to 60, but not 50. Is that right?

It's one partition on a 160GB drive. The stuff on the other partition
isn't mission-critical, and I don't back it up.

least works.

I use Weather HD as well as Live Dock Weather. Neither is as good as Weather Dock was, but they do the job.
