Thanks for the help. Sadly Shaw is stuck in Pop format which is very frustrating.
I didn't think I could sync the accounts but I thought I would ask. I think I can sync GMail though

However, if you can change your other POP mail accounts to IMAP you should be able to set up the same IMAP accounts on Macs and iOS devices to keep them sync'ed to their respective servers and on your own Apple Mac computers and iOS devices.

Greetings! What is a good Mac program for investment portfolio tracking? Preferably I would like one that can access real-time market data (20 minutes late is OK) and my Charles Schwab account automatically. The built-in Schwab program is made for the PC and there is a hokey Java/Web based program that runs on Macs.
I want something where I can set up several portfolios for different accounts. IRA, Dividend Accounts, Growth shares, etc.
Any good ideas? Many thanks!

You might look at "StockMarketEye". Does everything you want except
perhaps, talk to Chuck Schwab. It is java too but works well.

That is why I am looking at the Glyph 2TB Drives. My WD's do seem to get really hot, but the Glyph drives have cooling fans in them.

I just did that with one of the drives, and so far so good. I'm afraid to do it with the one that has two days worth of TM backups on it, because I want to use the latest one for my new SSD.
Thanks for the help Otto.

You are the third person THIS WEEK who I've heard from who is having a problem with Western Digital drives not always mounting.
I have a friend who owns a well-known hard drive recovery service that specializes in Macs:
Drew Janssen, Pres.
Drive Rescue, Inc.

Recently Drew told me that the quality of Western Digital mechanisms has fallen precipitously and should be avoided.
I recommend that you e-mail Drew and tell him what's happening, and ask him what he thinks. You can tell him that I referred you. Please let us know what he has to say.

I plug it into the wall to conserve battery power, then it accesses my
Comcast wireless router. It begins the download, then in about 2 minutes it
tells me that the download failed. I have done this before with an earlier
update and it worked flawlessly. That¹s what has me stumped!

This is direct to the iPhone? Is there enough free space? Have you tried

Hello, all, I have a strange issue.
I have upgraded to OS 10.8.2 from 10.7.4. I have set up an iCloud account on that computer and my other devices (iPad, iPhone).
Using Messages on the computer has been, well, interesting. When I open messages and try to open a new message, Messages does not see my contacts. I can enter a phone number or an email address and send and receive messages, but the program will not auto fill the contact from my address book. My iCloud account is using my address book (that's the only active account in Contacts).
Here's the interesting part: I have accounts set up on two more computers (my wife's and another one). Those accounts are linked to my iCloud account. When I try to send a message using those other devices, Messages sees the contact and fills it into the "to" field.
I am very confused. Why won't messages see my contacts on my main computer, but will on two other computers?
Please help!

Thanks Don for your post about my problem. But I already have admin privileges as I am the only user of the computer. From searching the web I have found this info on the constant password problem as a problem with user permissions. But as it involves delving into Terminal commands I am too afraid to try it. This is the link.
http://applehelpwriter.wordpress.com/2011/11/29/how-to-fix-permissions-permissions-pt-2/
Should I try it or does anyone know of anything else I can do? Get Info for the Trash still says I have 26GB and over 18000 files there!!! I just don't think I'll be able to restore so many manually one by one. "Select All" or even a few doesn't give the option of "Put Back" in the right click menu. Someone said that you could only do multiples if they were going into the same folder and that is an unknown.
Thanks in advance for any ideas - I've been dreaming about it - nightmares really!

I asked earlier if you have backups and you replied "Of course ...".
The obvious solution is to take a further backup (but not overwriting any
previous backup), then restore all affected folders from the previous
backup. You can then delete everything in the Trash. Any files you've
created/amended since the backup you've restored from will be on the new
backup and should be easy to identify and small in number, much smaller
than 18,000 anyway!
Backups are not just for protecting against hardware failure; they are just
as much for protecting against user error. ;)

My son just started college, and we sent him to college with a brand-new MacBook Air.
I'd like to purchase laptop/renter's insurance to cover it in the eventuality that it is stolen. (Fortunately the school provides a locked drawer for him to store the laptop in when he is out of the room and he doesn't have it with him. But I'm aware that a new MacBook Air is a considerable target for theft at a university.)
Can anyone recommend a good insurance company to go with that has good rates for this?

Wondered if anyone had any suggestions for backing up Gmail?
I used to use 'Gmail Backup' which was fairly good - but AFAIK only a
Windows client exists.
Ideally I'd like to back up 80,000+ messages locally on my MBP and/or on my
Box.net account, rather than copy/forward them to another IMAP service.
Thanks,
Mark
