Tod,

I'll have a play when I've got time but in the meantime I'd try CCC. Recent
versions have an explicit copy-folder option, although I've never tried it
to FAT (obviously true cloning won't work). If this works, you could set a
CCC task to run a copy each time the external drive is connected, for
example.

It would be interesting if CCC did not show the problem, but it can't do what I need. I don't need to simply copy. I'm reorganizing, taking files from different folders and recombining into new folders.

Don't knock yourself out. I will be able to solve my immediate problem as the files can be accessed differently and I suspect I'm going to have to wait for that version for practical reasons anyway. At this point, it's probably academic.

If 'cp' works with FAT32, then your simplest approach (if you can't find a suitable third party application) would be a Perl script to do the specific management task you want. Despite the size of the project (in GB) it sounds like the script would be quite straightforward.

Why not one more update? Just a hair over 6 full days, I still have
35% battery life remaining. If I can figure out a way to actually use
the thing *and* get it to conserve battery like this between uses,
I'll be a happy camper!

I use an HP Photosmart D110. It's under $100, it works great wirelessly.

I'm assuming that you mean a wireless printer for a Mac? Or are you
asking about a printer for an iPad?

Inkjet? Laser? Color or black & white?

For mainly photo printing or text printing?

Stand-alone or multi-function?

Price range?

What 'charset' Mail.app chooses depends on the content of the message. On 'Automatic', If the content is simply plain text Mail.app will choose 'us-ascii', which is the universally accepted (ie in all encodings) for characters up to 127. If there is anything else in the content Mail.app will use 'utf-8'. This seems to apply whether Mail's preferences are set to Plain Text or Rich Text.

I have not been able to pin down exactly the rules by which Mail chooses 'Content-Type' and 'Content-Transfer-Encoding' which are many and various. perhaps there is a TechNote somewhere, but if there is I haven't been able to find it.

Mac mail auto fill address question

Posted by: "bobbystar" bobbystar@yahoo.com   bobbystar

Tue Jan 31, 2012 1:54 pm (PST)

I am using Mac Mail 5.1 on both an IMac and Macbook Pro. Both computers OS is Mac OS X version 10.7.2

I like the auto fill feature for inserting addresses, however it offers addresses that are no longer valid. How can I delete these invalid addresses? It must have picked up some from saved messages as far back as the mid 1980's.

TIA,

Bobby

Howdy.

When you see the incorrect auto address try doing a Right click
(Control left click) on it. I think that presents a contextual menu
with a delete. You may need to do the right click BEFORE the address is
entered but when presented as a list.

(a gentle pet peeve. There is no program named "Mac Mail." Apple
makes the free email program called "Mail." I called it Apple's Mail
program.)

This is an extremely frequently asked question. In Mail.app, go to the Window menu and choose "Previous Recipients." Highlight one that is bad and click Remove From List.

I call it "OS X Mail" to distinguish it from the iPhone/iPad app. ;-)

I bought a Bluetooth keyboard on amazon. The guide that came with it said to hold down a black button near the off-on switch for 1-2 sec. After which the iPad will locate the keyboard. I see no indication that it is locating the kb. The message says "searching."

Welcome to the list.

There are no local mind readers here, let alone long distance mind readers. Give us a little more to go on. How about what brand and model of keyboard are you trying to use. Followed by which model of iPad you are using, and what iOS is on it.

The crude specs that came with the keyboard say it is Bluetooth version 3.0, class 2.

My system is model 4.2.1, 14gb, I don't know what IOs (how do i find that out?) the earlier model.
