Jobs’ biographer says the CEO’s disdain for Android was real

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 01:22 PM PDT

Yesterday, Google’s Larry Page sparked some controversy with some comments he made regarding Steve Jobs. In an interview with Businessweek, the CEO suggested that Jobs’ disdain for Android was more for show than anything else.

But Walter Isaacson, author of the Apple founder’s popular biography, tells a different story. Isaacson gave a lecture at the Royal Institution in the UK last night, and had no problem clearing the air about Jobs’ feelings on Google’s mobile OS…(...)

AppMosaic is an upcoming jailbreak app that brings App Store App discovery to your iDevice by means of Cydia.

I believe this is probably the first app of its kind on Cydia, and for that, AppMosaic gets major props for originality.

Upon opening the app, you’re presented with a two sided column that composes a full mosaic of app icons. The left side of the column is dedicated to the top 200 paid apps, and the right side is for the top 200 free apps.

Apple reportedly reaches settlement over search for iPhone 4S prototype

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 11:41 AM PDT

In the months leading up to the iPhone 4S launch, Apple lost a prototype of the handset. It seemed like it was going to be the iPhone 4/Gizmodo debacle all over again, but no pictures or other evidence ever surfaced.

Apple took some heat over the way it handled its search for the device, allegedly raiding the home of Sergio Calderon with a team of police officers. In fact, Sergio threatened to file a lawsuit against the company unless a settlement was reached.

Well here we are, more than 6 months later, and no lawsuit has been filed…(...)

Barron’s, a financial arm of The Wall Street Journal’s web network, passes on an interesting report today from Jefferies & Co.’s Peter Misek. The analyst has upped his stock price target for Apple to $800 per share on the back of new information regarding a TV set.

In an investor’s note, sent out this morning, Misek said that his recent trip to China has given him “increased confidence” that Apple will be launching a TV this year. He claims, among other things, that he saw television components en route to Apple suppliers…(...)

GLAS.t glass screen protector review

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 10:13 AM PDT

By now, you probably know that I’m neither a fan of cases nor screen protectors, so when the folks at SGP asked me if I’d like to check out their new screen protector for iPhone 4S, I gave them my boilerplate answer: “you may send it to me but I make no guarantee that I will review it on iDB.”

I was really intrigued by SGP’s GLAS.t premium tempered glass screen protector right off the bat though. As far as I know, this is the very first screen protector for iPhone entirely made of glass, and after seeing the video demo, I knew I wanted to try it despite my disdain for screen protectors.

So about a month ago, I installed the GLAS.t on my iPhone 4S. This is my review of it…(...)

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 07:08 AM PDT

Wouldn’t it be cool if the iPhone immediately enabled the media controls on the Lock screen upon the detection of headphones? Indeed, it would.

HeadphoneLauncher borrows this idea and takes it one step further; not only will it bring up the Lock screen media controls, but it will also bring up an application launcher that you can use to launch your favorite apps.

Check out our video walkthrough of HeadphoneLauncher inside…(...)

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Experiencing Wi-Fi problems with your new iPad? Apparently you’re not alone. According to a recent report from 9to5Mac, hundreds of new iPad owners have taken to Apple’s online support forums complaining of the issue.

In fact, the site has gotten its hands on an internal Apple memo (above) that instructs retail employees to “capture” affected devices — meaning send them in to Apple for inspection — and replace them under warranty…(...)
