Motorola Wants 2.25% of Apple’s Sales in Exchange for Patent License

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 03:34 PM PST

The legal battle going on between Apple and Motorola in Germany’s Mannheim court is starting to get pretty intense. Just yesterday, Apple was forced to pull some of its 3G products from its German online store as the result of a temporary injunction.

Although Apple quickly won a suspension on the ruling and the products are on sale again, the damage is done. The court has ruled that it believes that Apple is using one of Motorola’s wireless patents. And for that, Motorola wants to get paid…(...)

Yahoo Rolls Out New App Search Page

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 12:30 PM PST

You have to feel bad for Yahoo. The one-time dominate web company now seems to be constantly staving off the thought of bankruptcy as a result of failing to transition into the mobile market as its counterparts have.

But that doesn’t mean that it’s giving up on the mobile world. Last year, the company launched an iOS app to help you search for mobile applications. And now it’s just unveiled a web-based portal with a similar function…(...)

Did You Know There Are Six Hidden Buttons on the iPad’s Split Keyboard?

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 12:00 PM PST

The ability to split up the iPad’s keyboard is one of my favorite lesser-known features in iOS 5. I don’t use it all the time. But it really comes in handy when I need to rattle off an email or conjure up other large bodies of text.

Apple obviously put a lot of thought into getting the split keyboard just the right size for its tablet, and it shows. In fact, there are even some elements of the keyboard that you can’t see. Did you know there were hidden buttons on the iPad’s split keyboard?(...)

The One and Only Screen On My iPhone

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 09:01 AM PST

When I wrote about my top 10 jailbreak tweaks last week, many of you were surprised not to see Springtomize 2 on the list. As I explained in the comments, Springtomize was not on the list because it hadn’t been really optimized to work properly on the iPhone 4S, which ended up causing me a bunch of troubles.

But this is now behind us as Springtomize was updated yesterday. It is more stable, and even brings its insane level of customization to the iPad.

In association with some of my favorite tweaks like InfiniFolders and InfiniDock, I was able to use Springtomize to create my ideal home screen…(...)

How to Troubleshoot Tweak Installs With Springtomize 2

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 07:00 AM PST

Springtomize 2 — hands down the most robust tweak when it comes to customizing your iDevice — just received an update to add native iPad support yesterday.

That update reminded me of one of Springtomize 2′s extremely useful, but often overlooked features that helps out immensely with troubleshooting problems.

Like SBSettings, Springtomize 2 contains a “MobileSubstrate Addons” sections that allows you to disable tweaks without having to uninstall them. It’s sort of a hidden feature, but we’ll show you how to use it in this brief video walkthrough…(...)

MusicBanners: Banner Notifications for Track Changes and More

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 06:00 AM PST

If you use the iPod app on your iOS device as much as I do, then you’re going to love the new jailbreak tweak: MusicBanners. The tweak, made by popular developer Ryan Petrich, brings your music to iOS 5′s notification system.

So what does it do? Essentially, MusicBanners sends you a notification every time a new track comes up on your iPod app. This means that you receive a notification with the track’s name, album and cover art after every song change…(...)

Shrink Siri’s Interface Window With TinyAssistant

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 05:00 AM PST

Folks who believe that Siri’s initial interface window takes up way more space than it needs will be happy to hear about this new jailbreak tweak.

TinyAssistant, from developer Ron Melkhior, is a new utility that shrinks Siri’s interface window down to the size of your iOS app switcher…(...)

Apple Pulls Several Misleading Applications From the App Store

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 04:00 AM PST

Even with Apple’s notoriously strict approval process, misleading applications constantly make their way into the App Store. We’ve covered a number of these titles on iDB — most recently Craft-Build Terrain, a fake MineCraft game.

These fraudulent applications have been making some serious waves in the developer community over the last few weeks. Developers believe these apps give their titles, and the App Store in general, a bad name. And Apple has responded…(...)
