Question 2: Where is the restore function?

As I have rooted around inside the iOS 5 warren of features I have noticed that there is no clearly identified button instructing iCloud to restore an iOS device if it has been corrupted or what not. Anybody happen to know how that process might work or if it is even a feature of the software yet? This would be useful to know if one is 500 miles from one's home computer and the iPhone decided to act wacky.

Among the big enhancements to iOS 5 is Apple's new iCloud suite, which
keeps your mail, contacts, calendars, documents, and other data stored
in the cloud and synced to all your Apple devices. Most people
currently use Google services for these features, so we played with
iCloud for a few days and looked at how they stacked up against one
another. Here's what we found. More »

Actually what I was thinking when I wrote that was an inexpensive, modern, Windows 7 machine, but an iMac, a Mini, or a Macbook would work, too.

How can I turn the Cloud back on

I read an article posted here and made many of the changes recommended to
increase battery life of my 4 (I did the update when it came out) and one of
the things the article said was to turn off the Cloud, which I did. Then I
decided I probably wanted to keep the Cloud, but now it's gone. How can I
get it back?
Thanks,
Carol

Need to read PDFs on the go? Adobe announced the availability today of
Adobe Reader for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

When you search for a word Adobe Reader highlights it in the document.

(Credit: Screenshot by Jason Parker/CNET)
Adobe says that the app works just like the desktop version, letting
you read and interact with the widest variety of PDF files on your
iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Among the features in the iOS version, you'll be able to open PDF files
from the mail app, the Web, and any app that supports the "Open In..."
option. You'll be able to access ePortfolio (PDF Portfolios), PDF
Packages, annotations, and drawing markups. You'll also be able to open
and view encrypted PDF files and access files secured by Adobe
LiveCycle Rights Management.

For getting around within PDF files, the app lets you search text for
specific words, create bookmarks to jump to the information you want
quickly, or you can scan through large files by browsing thumbnails of
the document.

Adobe Reader for iOS also supports AirPrint so you can create a hard
copy on the go, or you can quickly e-mail a PDF document as an
attachment.

With auto-scrolling, the capability to view documents as a continuous
page, and controls optimized for the touch... [Read more]

iPhone 4S video compared side-by-side with Canon 5D Mark II [video]

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: iPhone 4S video
compared side-by-side with Canon 5D Mark II [video] via BGR: The Three
Biggest Letters In Tech by Todd Haselton on 10/17/11

Robino Films has posted a video which compares 1080p HD video samples
captured by both the iPhone 4S and the Canon 5D Mark II side-by-side.
The videographer said the iPhone 4S and Canon EOS-5D Mark II were set
so that the frame rate, picture style, exposure and shutter speed were
"as close as possible." The Canon 5D Mark II was equipped with a 50mm
lens, ISO was set to 160 ~ 640, shutter speed was set to 1/60th,
auto-white balance was activated and the camera was set to record at 30
frames per second at 1080p. The iPhone 4S was simply set to AE/AF
locked. The results are quite impressive and aside from some changes in
color, the videos actually look quite similar. The Canon 5D Mark II
with average lens runs around $3,000 and up. Be sure to catch the video
after the break below.

When i log in to apple.com and go to manage account, it considers the @me account I set up along with the iOS 5 update to be simply an additional email associated with my account (the primary one being my apple ID email that already existed). I believe you can get rid of it from there but it shouldn't really be an issue.

They haven't? Either I'm missing something or I don't understand the answer. My Apple ID is the same as my MobileMe addy and that is a mac.com email addy. I've always had it set up that way. When I signed into iCloud, it asked for my Apple ID, so that's what I gave them and have had no problems.

I think a lot of people that were using a PC, bought an ipod and started
using itunes with their common most used email address (like me). When I
got an iphone and wanted to use mobile me we had to create a me.com address.
However now our purchases are through our most used email and the cloud
can't seem to merge the me.com account to the itunes account. The me.com
account can be a subaccount. I just wonder what happens when my mobile me
account expires.

Only having iTunes with a Mac, when I signed up for iTunes, they allowed either a mac.com or an AIM email addy. You clicked the one you wanted to use. I'm not sure how the rest of you were able to use any other email addy unless Only PC's could.

You and I can use either .mac or me.com. They both work interchangeably.

That's true. I believe mac.com forwards to me.com. Not sure though. It's just neat to use a mac.com addy since that shows how long I've been with MobileMe :-)

I don't think there was any restriction when I signed up with iTunes (on my PC). I used my gmail account.

That is correct. I used my aol account. But when I signed up for mobile
me it created the me.com account. So the problems with merging occured

Hmm, one of their "stories" was about a kid (glad he's not mine!) who tested it with his new iPhone 4 from about 6 feet dropping to concrete, no problem but his friends Otterbox failed.

I ordered one today anyway. I'm heading to Florida this winter and want to keep the sand and surf away from my new 4S. I also get tired of struggling to get my Otterbox clad 4 out of my pocket and this one says it is not "sticky".

I guess it all depends on which Otterbox you get. Some are bulkier than others. Some seem to protect better. I've not heard of Life Case.

I just checked out the LifeProof website and they have a gen 2 case so I hope you ordered that one.

It looks like it actually provides more protection.

I will be ordering one to try it again.
