Apple Wanted Siri to Have a “Light Attitude”

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 02:00 PM PDT

A recent report by the Wall Street Journal focuses on Norman Winarsky, one of the co-founders of Siri. According to Winarsky, Siri came from an artificial intelligence project at SRI, a R&D group.

When Apple was starting to integrate Siri, they wanted it “friendly and humble—but also with an edge.” This way of thinking is made evident by the fact that Siri does have many personality traits. To attest to this, someone started a blog called “Sh#! That Siri Says,” where users can send in their own humorous responses from Siri….(...)

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 01:00 PM PDT

If you’ve tried downloading the official Google Voice app from the App Store within the last 21 hours, you’ve probably had no luck finding it. That’s because Google has removed the app.

According to Engadget, Senior Product Manager for Google Voice Vincent Paquet stated that the app had been pulled, due to a bug in the new version that caused the app to crash at sign in…(...)

Apple Wants Me to Use Yahoo on iOS 5?

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 12:00 PM PDT

Something really unexpected happened yesterday. I was doing a Google search on my new iPhone 4S when a popup appeared asking me if I’d like to change my search engine to Yahoo!

Needless to say, I was really confused. Is Google telling me that it’s too good for me and I should switch to Yahoo? Or is Apple trying to tell me something?(...)

iPhone 4S Purchased Off-Contract on AT&T is Already Unlocked

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 11:30 AM PDT

Although Apple has stated that it won’t sell the iPhone 4S unlocked until sometime in November, reports are showing that several people in the US have already obtained an unlocked iPhone 4S from the Apple Store.

One of those lucky individuals happens to be iOS developer Steven Troughton-Smith. Steven Troughton-Smith is also the developer behind the port of Siri to the iPhone 4 and iPad 2. We at iDownloadBlog have been able to purchase a retail iPhone 4S and use it on T-Mobile… (...)

WeeRadio: An Internet Radio for iOS 5′s Notification Center

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 11:00 AM PDT

Steaming services like Pandora, Spotify, and Rdio are all the rage these days, but before those we had something called Internet radio.

All you needed was one of the many streaming radio URLs, and you could stream music, talk shows, and virtually everything in-between.

Believe it or not, Internet radio still has a huge following, as evident by WeeRadio — a Notification Center widget for iOS 5, which places your favorite Internet radio stations right at your fingertips…(...)

iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S: Speaker Volume [Video]

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 10:00 AM PDT

After our initial use, we had a sneaking suspicion that Apple pumped up the volume on the iPhone 4S, so we figured that it would only be right to perform a test.

I happily headed over to iDB labs (my office) and put together a test that was as accurate as I could possibly pull off.

The results? Well, they speak for themselves. The iPhone 4S’s speaker is much louder than the iPhone 4′s, and this video proves that without a doubt…(...)

It’s been about 48 hours since many of you have acquired a shiny new iPhone 4S. You’ve played with Siri, you’ve used dictation, and you’ve probably taken dozens of pictures. But have you gotten a chance to try AirPlay mirroring?

AllMail Brings Better Mail Management to iOS 5

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 07:00 AM PDT

If you purchased Delete Mail or Mark Read for your iDevice, you may have noticed that neither extension is compatible yet with the new Mail app in iOS 5. The iOS 5 update brings new mail management features to your device, but "Select All" is nowhere to be found.

Many of us with large email inboxes are very wary of manually selection multiple emails to apply Mail actions. Simply put, it is very disappointing that neither Mark Read or DeleteMail have received iOS 5 updates yet.

Thankfully, a new jailbreak tweak has been released to solve your massive message management woes. Most of Cydia’s recent activity has been centered on compatibility updates, but some game-changing newcomers have been appearing in the updates. Enter AllMail…(...)

Sprint iPhone Owners Complaining About Slow 3G Data Speeds

Posted: 16 Oct 2011 06:00 AM PDT

You have to feel for Sprint customers, don’t you? First they had to wait four years to get their hands on an iPhone, and now that they have it, their data network doesn’t appear to be coping too well.

As Macrumors is now reporting, there is now a fairly long thread developing over at the Sprint support forums, where iPhone owners are reporting issues, mainly of the “my iPhone’s 3G data connection is soo slow” variety…(...)
