When it comes to taking pictures with the iPhone, Camera- provides a whole new feel-good factor. The app has numerous features that by far exceed what the improved photo app of the iOS 5 offers in innovations.

Camera- provides three different help features which can be displayed in the camera preview. Auxiliary lines and an artificial horizon help to align the photos. The stabilizer protects the photos in three steps from camera shake and a picture may only be taken if the iPhone is held very steady.

The internal timer takes care of recording new images. An automatic release can be set with a delay of up to 50 seconds. In the burst mode someone may take as many serial pictures in a row as desired, by simply holding down the trigger button. The images will be saved instantly in the library. A big success is also the "clapper mode". Any sound (even tongue clicking) will ensure that the camera takes a picture so that the photographer's hands will be free to hold the iPhone. Camera- is perfect for left-handed persons since the controller may easily be adapted to their needs.

Camera- offers many unusual features. The flash for example may be turned on permanently by using the LED light of the iPhone 4/4S as a flashlight to illuminate an indoor scene. Experts adjust focus and exposure separately. A real extra: image processing while taking a picture. It automatically adjust the size of an image, incorporates a pre-selected effect, a border or a scene setting and optimizes brightness and contrast as well. The finished pictures may not only be stored on the iPhone, but can be automatically posted on Facebook, Twitter or Dropbox.

Camera- provides the finishing touch with an internal image processing feature that assists in creating the perfect photo. Here the user has the option to adjust contrast, brightness and sharpness, crop, rotate or select a border. Even unwanted objects and elements may be removed from a photo by simply marking them with the touch of a finger. Someone can also take advantage of the unique retouch mode.

This means that you can use the scroll bar to scroll back to previous screens to look at the data or print a scrolled-back page or copy a selection into the clipboard.

Many functions can be controlled by a script (such as transferring data to and from the host, sending commands to the host and messages to the Mac user). Scripts compiled as applications can be run from "Run AppleScript" under the Special Menu. At launch in portrait orientation, the viewer is greeted warmly by a young boy named Zain Al-Islam (literally, he who has the best of Islam in him). He is casually dressed, and his expressive eyes blink repeatedly, part of the exaggerated size of his 3D, animated head. From behind the screen he knocks against it with his hand to prompt the user to choose one of two modes: Salah or Wudhu.

In Salah mode, Zain is seen in a large, beautifully rendered mosque (obligatory prayer begins at age 10 or as early as age 7 for followers of Islam). The tiled walls and stained glass windows create a sacred atmosphere. Above the boy is a small filmstrip composed of five frames, corresponding to the five steps or positions during Salah. As he begins to pray, the first frame is illuminated, and as he continues each frame lights up in turn. Users can immediately access any of the five positions by tapping on one of the frames.

Each prayer is part of a repeating cycle, or raka'ah, which may include between two and four raka'at, depending upon which of the five daily prayers is being performed. As he prays, the boy demonstrates the five positions: standing, bowing, standing again with the hands raised, prostration, and sitting. Every ritual detail of the movement and position of the hands, fingers, feet, and head is clearly illustrated. The 3D animation is rendered as seen through a wide-angle lens, dramatically distorting the size of Zain's head as he bows.

In Wudhu mode Zain is seen seated in front of a water faucet, and the user can again follow along as each of the five frames in the filmstrip are illuminated. Demonstrated are the correct prayers and actions for washing the hands, face, forearms and elbows, and feet and ankles.

Just in time for Halloween, this friendly photo-altering app lets its users take photos of Jack-o-lanterns (or anything else) and blast the photo to pieces with machine gun bullets, a chainsaw or various other weapons. Pulverizer owners James Carballo and John Sharkey believe that the app is a perfect way to smash pumpkins during this Halloween season without making a mess.

"This app is one of the best apps for Halloween," said Carballo, "You can take a picture of someone's Jack-o-lantern, pulverize it with multiple weapons, and share it with all of your friends. You can also take a picture of your friends in costumes and shred those to pieces too for perfect Zombie-esque Halloween gore."

Pulverizer lets users take a picture with their iPhone or upload an image from their iPhone photo library and use it in the app. The app is free to download, with the machine gun weapon being free, the rest of the weapons must be paid for to unlock. After the user is done pulverizing the image, they can save it to their iPhone. Carballo also believes that Pulverizer has many entertaining uses outside of Halloween, such as taking pictures of your coworkers at the office, fellow students, friends, family and pulverizing them all in good fun.

"This is the most light-hearted, sharable photo-altering app available," said Carballo, "It's a fun app for Halloween or any other occasion that you can think of."
