Brent,

Thanks for the suggestion - I just sent feedback to Apple pretty similar to my original message. Not that I expect them to DO anything about it…

Regards,
Leti

I used to really enjoy making a playlist of video podcasts (like a whole bunch of Rick Steves' Europe podcasts) and watching them while pedaling on my exercise bike. Now I can't do that!

Ringtone Losses

Did anyone else lose custom-made ringtones when you upgraded to iOS 5.0? They were displayed on iTunes, but with the dreaded exclamation point sitting next to them. And clicking on the exclamation point yielded no explanation.

I finally recreated my tones and re-installed them on iTunes, which took some work, but was successful.

Under Settings>Message be sure to turn SEND AS SMS OFF. If this option is ON and the text message can't be sent as imessage text or is not available, the message will be sent as SMS (or regular text message) and you will be charged.

Thanks Bill. I think I had some other problems too relating to swapping lines. Her number was listed in some of the settings mine should have been, including messaging. Also Facetime, which is why every time we tried it to test mine would disconnect. I think I now know some of the things to be looking for when things aren't going as expected.

Re: settings >itunes wifi sync

I found that I could not sync my iPhone 4 via WiFi until I had enabled home-sharing on the music app. (Choose "More" on the bottom menu bar, then choose "Shared".)

Once I did that, the grayed out sync button became active.

Now both my iPhone and my iPod Touch sync flawlessly, and contrary to the instructions, they don't have to be connected to power during the process.

They have to be connected to power to backup. Sync it will do unpowered. Ex: you buy an app on your iPod Touch. That app then syncs with your phone and computer. If you plug in your iPhone or Touch to your computer, iTunes will make a backup of everything on your device.

Is it necessary to have Lion System on Your Mac to upgrade devices t

Posted by: "Joan" jheitzeb1@yahoo.com   jheitzeb1

I've already updated all my mobile devices, but my husband is a few updates behind. He hasn't installed Lion on his MacBook Pro where he normally syncs his mobile devices. He has installed the latest iTunes for the system he has.

Does he need Lion system on his Mac to update his iPhone 3GS and iPad to iOS 5?

Thank

No, but he does need iTunes 10.5. Lion is only required for iCloud syncing
with Mac.

iOS 5 works with Snow Leopard. He can upgrade just fine.

Airplay Mirroring with Apple TV/ Games / FaceTime on TV

Posted by: "Bill Boulware" bill.boulware@gmail.com   boulware0224

Sat Oct 15, 2011 1:55 pm (PDT)

For those of you with iPhone 4S (or iPad 2) and newer Apple TVs - one of the
least mentioned MAJOR features is Wireless Airplay Mirroring. With phone
unlocked double press home and swipe App dock left twice, you will see the
volume slider and an upside down triangle/box. Tap on the box and and
select your Apple TV and and a second "Mirroring" option appears - slide
that On and your device screen will be pushed to your TV. This means
playing games, playing photos and videos you shot, using FaceTime, reading
e-mail, browsing web, etc on your TV. Gaming is obviously going to be
biggest option, you go from a 3.5" screen to 42/46/50 screens. It
supposedly requires the graphics processor on the A5 chip so there isn't an
iPod Touch model that does this yet but I suspect once it is available that
is going to be a major game selling point. Not to mention photos/videos
with no cables, you can be at friends or family and as long as they let you
log on to their WiFi you can "push" your iPhone or iPad to their screen.
Big feature that I have seen very little about...

If your family uses one Apple ID to purchase music and apps and have

Probably has to do with the "mobile me account before the iOS 5 update but I then created a @me email address", since both would be treated as @me. Did they both have the same username? Have you finished the tranfer between your mobileme and icloud accounts?

On the one that says no location found, there is something on the bottom that says email when found (on or off). I only ever had one iPhone (the iPhone 4) so I'm confused as to why it would indicate two devices for my iPhone in the first place.

WiFi Scanner App

Posted by: "robfrankeldotcom" rob@iphonewingman.com   robfrankeldotcom

Well, I upgraded to iOS5 and lost two things:

1. All my TED talks subscribed video podcasts
2. A nifty app called WiFi Tracker that had let me view available open and closed WiFi networks within range.

So how do I get the TED podcasts back? iTunes 10.5 still has me subscribed, so that hasn't changed. The downloaded videos just vanished.

Secondly, had Apple banned WiFi scanners? Does any have an app to replace it?

Thanks,

4S slips out of Wifi into 3G, then back to Wifi when in my home

Posted by: "cocosolobaby" elisamalo@yahoo.com   cocosolobaby

Sat Oct 15, 2011 3:36 pm (PDT)

My [NEW, Yay!] 4s is set up (w/password) to automaticallyconnect to my
home wifi. When I'm in myhome, when my phone's screen is
black/in sleep mode--à When I turn on thescreen (now looking at my
locked screen), it says "3G" first, then it goes backto wifi.
This happens just about everytime it comes from black screen to a turned
on screen (for instance when youtouch your home button to turn your
screen on).

I've already gone to the wifi area of settings, clicked"Forget this
Network", re-entered my homewifi password, and clicked "Renew
Lease". My husband also got a 4s yesterday and his phone isn't doing
this (ourwifi settings are the same on both phones). Also, sometimes it
goes to 3G while the screen is actually on. It's like it slips out
of wifi and goes to3G when it's in sleep mode.

(1) Is this a problem or should I care?

(2) I thought wifi uses less battery so shouldn't I want to
keepit on wifi when I'm home?
