Apple Reportedly Working on iPad App to Compete With Cable Providers Posted: 03 Oct 2011 05:00 PM PDT Looking to take a break from the onslaught of next-generation iPhone rumors? Robert Scoble may have just the thing. The plugged-in blogger dropped a juicy tidbit on his Google+ page this morning regarding a secret Apple project. Is Apple Set to Announce App Trials? Posted: 03 Oct 2011 03:37 PM PDT We’re so close to tomorrow’s iPhone event that we can taste it, and the rumors just keep on flying. The latest comes thanks to Apple’s latest iTunes 10.5 beta, with ‘The Tech Era‘ discovering a rogue bit of code that, they believe, could point to Apple’s impending announcement of iOS app rentals. The blog post points out that after the rental period has elapsed, the app in question would automatically be deleted from a user’s iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. While that sounds theoretically possible, I’m not convinced that’s the plan at all. What if Apple was planning on finally rectifying one of the issues that has plagued the App Store since day one? What if Apple was planning on announcing app trials? It actually makes a lot of sense, and here’s why…(...) "Is Apple Set to Announce App Trials?" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. Sony Ericsson CEO: “We Should Have Taken the iPhone More Seriously” Posted: 03 Oct 2011 02:30 PM PDT In the midst of dozens of last-minute iPhone rumors flying about today, TUAW points to an interesting article from The Wall Street Journal. The Journal recently spoke to Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg about the company’s mobile strategy. During the conversation, Nordberg mentions Apple’s popular smartphone in a comment that seemingly sums up the feelings of all of the other handset manufacturers in the industry: “We should have taken the iPhone more seriously…”(...) Did Sprint Just Sign a $20 Billion Deal with Apple for iPhone 5 Exclusivity? Posted: 03 Oct 2011 12:39 PM PDT After four years of waiting, it appears that Sprint will finally get the chance to carry Apple’s smartphone on its network. Among other things, Apple is expected to announce a new partnership with the carrier at tomorrow’s iPhone event. A few moments ago, The Wall Street Journal (who confirmed the Sprint-bound iPhone back in August) posted an interesting article regarding the new partnership between Apple and the third largest US operator. The deal reportedly requires Sprint to purchase 30.5 million iPhones over the next 4 years, costing the company nearly $20 billion. But why in the world would Sprint make such a staggering commitment? BGR believes it’s for iPhone 5 exclusivity…(...) The iPhone 4S “Life-Changing” Feature Posted: 03 Oct 2011 12:00 PM PDT There has been a lot of controversy over Apple’s iPhone event tomorrow. Recent evidence has suggested that the company won’t be unveiling a device with an all-new design, but one similar to the iPhone 4 with improved internals. Skeptics believe that an iPhone 4S wouldn’t be enough to power Apple’s smartphone sales in the face of growing competition. Why would anyone choose a non-4G device with a 3.5″ screen over offerings like the Galaxy S II? Assistant of course…(...) "The iPhone 4S “Life-Changing” Feature" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. How iOS 5 Can Reinvigorate the Jailbreak Community Posted: 03 Oct 2011 11:35 AM PDT A while back, we ran a story that entitled: iOS 5 to Kill the Jailbreak Community? That was of course, before Apple unveiled iOS 5 at the 2011 WWDC at Moscone West. The purpose of that article, was to call out Apple’s not so subtle means of usurping the jailbreak throne by making jailbreaking less glamorous, less desirable. Essentially, Apple was planning on taking some of the best features of jailbreaking, and bake it right into their new OS. Since then, I’ve tested multiple betas of iOS 5 on everything including the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. While it does make quite a few of the jailbreak community’s apps — at best redundant, at worst, totally obsolete or unecesarry — it’s far from the end of the world for the jailbreak community. In fact, I strongly feel that jailbreaking can and will be reinvigorated with iOS 5; inside, I’ll explain why…(...) Apple Will Not Be Streaming Tomorrow’s iPhone Event Posted: 03 Oct 2011 11:03 AM PDT Bummer. Apple has officially stated that it will not be streaming tomorrow’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event, according to 9to5Mac. Apple streamed live video of last year’s September event, but no such luck this year. UK journalists will get a private stream at the Covent Garden Apple Store in London.(...) Rumor: Verizon Stacking Call Center Staff in Anticipation of iPhone Launch Tomorrow Posted: 03 Oct 2011 10:15 AM PDT In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, Apple is hosting a media event tomorrow at its Cupertino campus. The blogosphere has been buzzing over rumored announcements, but everyone is more interested in the new iPhone itself. With the keynote now within 24 hours, it’s time for everyone to place their last-minute bets. What will it look like? How will it measure up to previous devices? And when will it be available? Macgasm seems to think it will hit the shelves tomorrow…(...) "Rumor: Verizon Stacking Call Center Staff in Anticipation of iPhone Launch Tomorrow" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com.
