Not Having LTE Lets iPhone Users Browse the Web Up to 5 Hours Longer

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 04:00 PM PDT

Rumors of an LTE-capable iPhone didn’t materialize at Apple’s event last week, adding fuel to the fire for the company’s critics. After all, there are dozens of Android handsets available that support next-generation technologies like LTE and WiMax.

But Apple chose to skip on LTE this time around for several reasons. The technology, in its opinion, just wasn’t ready. Perhaps there’s no better proof of that than AnandTech’s new infographic that shows what LTE does to a smartphone’s battery life…(...)

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 03:15 PM PDT

No less than a few minutes after I posted about TwitterTask, iDB viewers and readers were on it like white on rice.

I hereby stand corrected; TwitterTask isn’t the only way to send out native tweets from anywhere on a jailbroken iOS device.

That’s because Ryan Petrich’s iOS 5 compatibility update to Activator wasn’t just some minor change to make sure it worked on the new firmware; no, it includes quite a few new features; Twitter and Notification Center actions being among them…(...)

The iPhone 4 Was Verizon and AT&T’s Top Handset Last Month

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 02:30 PM PDT

You would think that with an iPhone refresh on the horizon, sales for last year’s model would start to decline. Why would you buy an outdated handset, when you knew that a new one would be announced soon for the same price?

Apparently not everyone followed the iPhone rumors, or if they did, they just didn’t care. Because according to BGR, the iPhone 4 was still the top-selling smartphone for both Verizon and AT&T during the month of September…(...)

TwitterTask: Send Tweets From Anywhere In iOS 5

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 01:26 PM PDT

iOS 5′s Twitter integration is nice and everything, but it’s not without its shortcomings.

The biggest shortcoming for Twitter integration in iOS, is the inability to send a tweet from anywhere; without an attachment.

As it stands now, you have to perform an action such as sending a picture, in order to send out a tweet in iOS. No longer…(...)

Last weekend, Apple and its carrier partners opened up their iPhone 4S pre-order pages to record-breaking sales numbers. This is by far the most successful iPhone launch in the device’s history.

Though the handsets aren’t expected to start arriving until this Friday, some parts of the globe are already receiving shipments. We saw some of the first screenshots of the iPhone 4S earlier today, and now we have the first hands-on video…(...)

How to Accurately Track Your iPhone 4S When Apple’s Order Page Says “Preparing for Shipment”

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 12:00 PM PDT

Needless to say, the last few days have been both frustrating and exciting. Exciting because I was among the first to order my iPhone 4S on Friday morning; frustrating because Apple’s order status page still reads “Preparing for Shipment”.

This wouldn’t be so annoying if it weren’t for the fact that most of the iDB staff received shipment notifications a while ago.

I know, first world problems indeed, but a problem it was. Thankfully, there’s a quick and easy way to gather accurate results about the whereabouts of your new iPhone 4S. I show you how in this video tutorial…(...)
