You're welcome. Just about done reading it. Good book.

One book that's been around awhile and is worth the buy is 'Inside Steve's Brain'.

Gotta look that one up. In the mean time, I am on thelist at the library for
the new Steve jobs biography that is due out in a few weeks.

I pre-ordered it too, but to buy, not to loan. Feel as if it's going to be worth hanging on to.

Thanks, Randy, that's just what I did. Since doing that I haven't had a problem. Thanks for your reply.

I assume Flash Player is running in Mail because it's needed. When it goes out then I get a message "missing plug-in" in trying to look at images in various newsletters I receive in Mail. The images must use Flash to display....Jim

I'm using Safari 5.0.5 in 10.6.8. That could be a reason if you are using a different version. Have you checked MacPilot? You could also try adding the Key to your Safari preferences manually:

<key>WebKitOmitPDFSupport</key>
<true/>

Flash Player 11.0.1.152

Posted by: "Barbara Elbe" beadedimages@earthlink.net   missladybee

Sun Oct 9, 2011 11:42 am (PDT)

I uninstalled Flash Player from my iMac 10.6.8 computer about a month ago after reading some negative comments about it. A few days later I decided to reinstall. I went to the Adobe Flash Player website downloaded and reinstalled the latest version back on to my computer.

Before I had made all these changes I had no problems at all with the Flash Player. Now I do. I recently tried to load and watch a TV program using Safari. Safari was unable to load the program. Tried with FireFox and then with Chrome and both froze the computer after about 5 minutes of viewing.

There is something wrong, I have no idea what it is or how to fix it.

Thanks,
Barbara

Well, if Chrome is freezing as well, then it isn't the Flash player. Chrome comes bundled with the latest version of Flash, and shouldn't use the one you installed.

For the photo that goes with this quote, click on the following link, then on the "Connecting the Dots" photo album. The picture was taken today, 25 years after I bought the computer.

DVD won't play

Posted by: "DaveC" davec2468@yahoo.com   davec2468

I insert a commercial DVD that I've watched before on this Mac but
this time I get the error "A valid video playback device could not be
found (-170017)." This is using Apple DVD Player.

I haven't updated or installed any new software on this Mac.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave

Have you restarted, doing a safe boot?

You can try VLC to view video from virtually any file or disc. You might want to try this.
