Upgrade ATT iPhone 4 to 4S unlimited data?

Posted by: "jamesrob@sonic.net" jamesrob@sonic.net   jamesrob328i

Mon Oct 10, 2011 6:17 am (PDT)

I'm on my 2nd iPhone (started with an iPhone 3, now have an iPhone 4. My recollection was that when the iPhone 4 came out (or perhaps later, when I got mine), ATT no longer offered NEW unlimited data plans. I know I was able to keep unlimited data by adding an additional 2 years to my contract.

Will I be able to keep unlimited data when I upgrade (I'm eligible) to an iPhone 4S? ATT's website doesn't clarify this as far as I can tell.

Thanks so much,
Jim Robertson

Yes, you will be grandfathers, but ATT slows you down significantly once you
surpass 2 GB.

Question, my husband and I both bought our iPhone4s in July 2010, mine was
purchased two weeks before his. My phone is eligible for an upgrade in
December but his says it isn't eligible until March. This of course has
really made him mad. My MIL's phone, on the same account, is out of
contract. It doesn't have any data plan or texting because she is 88 years
old and would not know how to use either if she had it.

Does anyone know if my husband uses my MIL's upgrade will he be able to keep
his unlimited data?

Thanks!

You need to call 611 and talk to sales and lobby for upgrades NOW for both your accounts waiving the upgrade fees. I was supposed to wait til Christmas unless I paid a $250 early upgrade fee and after lobbying them to wave the fee they did. Got my 64GB 4S for $399 and free shipping Friday. No penalty. Taylor,

What excuse did you use to get them to give you earlier upgrade than the
system shows?

1. I almost NEVER use their 3G network for data - almost always in a wi-fi zone.
2. Am low income and can't afford the early upgrade fee.
3. I TEACH iDevices and iOS 5 at the local computer center.
4. I tell everyone to buy AT&T iPhones and iPads NOT Verizon & Sprint - I'm an ambassador for them.
5. Have been a loyal customer for 3 years so I deserve the new one on launch without a penalty.

You have to ask the sales person to escalate your request to a supervisor. Don't take no for an answer. I started my lobbying 2 weeks ago. I had to wait for them to call me Friday afternoon. Key is to be talking to a person with Supervisor Powers to override all the penalties and shipping fees.

messages bouncing

Posted by: "Les Streater" lesstreater@marpubs.demon.co.uk   linernutuk

Mon Oct 10, 2011 7:39 am (PDT)

I am suddenly getting my mail bounced in the last two days. I have not added or altered anything, and it is happening from two different machines, a 27in 2010 iMac and a 2010 MacBook Pro, both running 10.6.8.

I have tried restarting Mail, I have restarted one Mac and restarted the router.

The bounced message I get includes the following:

SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<lesstreater@marpubs.demon.co.uk> SIZE=1921:
host mx2.hotmail.com [65.54.188.126]: 550 SC-002 (BAY0-MC4-F35) Unfortunately, messages from 195.173.77.149 weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list.

I am sending to family and friends whose addresses are in my address book, so I know the addresses are correct.

Any suggestions or is it a problem at the ISP?

TIA

This is the root of your problem. Some of your ISP's addresses are being
blocked as SPAM. probably due to someone using or spoofing their addresses
to send bulk spam. I had that happen several years ago when I used a hosted
server for email.

Have you tried a different disc? Maybe this one has gone bad. Might
be as simple as fingerprints on its surface. You can, believe it or
not, wash it with a mild detergent.

I use Dawn  dishwashing detergent on the DVD's I receive from Netflix. About 1/3 of the unplayable ones will play after a bath.

Wet the disc down and put a drop of Dawn on it. Rub it around and rinse and dry thoroughly before inserting in the DVD drive.

If it's a Netflix DVD and it still won't play, use a permanent marker to label the disc as "BAD!!!!!" (or other suitable language) so they can't send it out again.

Yes and yes.

It's not a dirty disc; I've tried several.

VLC gives same error.

I downloaded something called XBMC player but it was significantly
unrewarding (more glitz than function)...

I am connecting to this Mac mini (with Superdrive) via VNC when I get
this error. I tried plugging in a HDMI adapter to run the LCD (DVI
connector) directly but get the same error. Might this all have
something to do with monitor connectors, adapters, and cables?

Thanks,
Dave

Apple plans celebration of Steve Jobs' life for October 19th,

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Apple plans celebration
of Steve Jobs' life for October 19th, 10am PT via 9to5Mac by Jordan
Kahn on 10/10/11

Tim Cook has sent out an internal email to Apple employees informing
them of a celebration of Steve Jobs' life planned for October 19th in
the outdoor amphitheater of Apple's Infinite Loop campus in Cupertino.

Team,

Like many of you, I have experienced the saddest days of my lifetime
and shed many tears during the past week. But I've found some comfort
in the extraordinary number of tributes and condolences from people all
over the world who were touched by Steve and his genius. And I've found
comfort in both telling and listening to stories about Steve.

Although many of our hearts are still heavy, we are planning a
celebration of his life for Apple employees to take time to remember
the incredible things Steve achieved in his life and the many ways he
made our world a better place. The celebration will be held on
Wednesday, October 19, at 10am in the outdoor amphitheater on the
Infinite Loop campus. We'll have more details on AppleWeb closer to the
date, including arrangements for employees outside of Cupertino.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Tim
