Users Now Watching More Video on Tablet Devices Than Desktops

When Apple first unveiled the iPad in January of 2010, the world immediately began debating whether the first real mass-market tablet was going to be used as a content consumption device, or whether it could also be used to create that content. Almost two years later the argument has almost settled on the side of consumption, and video is one of the types of content we’re consuming.

In fact, according to a new report by analytics firm Ooyala.com, we’re watching more video on our tablets than on desktop computers these days.

To be exact, the report suggests that we’re now watching around 30% more video on our tablets, such as the iPad, than on desktops…(...)

ATARI’s Asteroids: Gunner Now Available on The App Store

ATARI is one of the biggest and oldest names in the gaming space. Even Apple co-founder Steve Jobs even worked there before starting Apple way back when, and all these years later ATARI is happily releasing some great games for Apple’s touch-based iOS devices.

The latest release to come out of the team at ATARI is ‘Asteroids: Gunner’ which the company describes as “a free-to-play, dual-stick action shooter for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.”

Bringing a spot of the old arcade magic to the iDevices, ‘Asteroids: Gunner’ is sure to be a real hit amongst those looking for a shooter that won’t break the bank, and with 150 waves of enemies, the game shouldn’t be one that’s over in a flash, either…(...)

Apple’s Geniuses to Begin Using iPads Instead of MacBook Pros

If there was ever any doubt about just how seriously Apple is taking the transition from the ‘trucks’ of the old generation, MacBooks and Macs, to the new generation of touch-enabled iOS devices then this should end it. According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple is planning to change the way it operates its Genius Bar by incorporating the iPad into its workflow.

Currently, Apple’s staff use MacBook Pros to help diagnose issues and then work to rectify them, but it would appear the company will now begin using iPads running custom software.

The change sees Apple replace its own premium notebooks with tablets, offering increased portability to the technical customer service process…(...)

MobileMount, a Successful KickStarter Project [Sponsored]

A couple weeks ago, we told you about a new Kickstarter project called “MobileMount,” an accessory that can serve as both a kickstand and a suction cup mount for iPhones, iPads, or pretty much anything else that has a flat surface.

Jose Sanchez, the guy behind the MobileMount, needed to raise $20,000 to start his project. Thanks to Kickstarter, some 1,300+ backers have already pledged close to $60,000 for the project, which goes far beyond Sanchez’s wildest expectations and there are still two more weeks to go, as anyone can still pledge until November 29th.

Third-party applications have turned smartphones into digital Swiss Army knives over the last few years. It seems like there are apps for everything these days, that do anything from helping you become a better lover, to improving your golf game.

Apparently there is even software for your iPhone that can help alleviate your headaches. These apps omit audible tones that supposedly synchronize your brainwaves to deeply relaxing low-frequency waves. It sounds impressive, but does it work?(...)

iTunes 10.5.1 Beta 3 With iTunes Match Seeded to Developers

Admittedly, we were expecting a final version of iTunes with iTunes Match to hit the scene any day now, but it looks like Apple is still squashing some remaining bugs.

In other words, iTunes 10.5.1 Beta 3 with iTunes Match was just seeded to developers a few minutes ago. We’ve installed it, and we can report that the overall experience is much faster than previous betas…(...)
