Spam emails?

After joining this group I was bombarded with relatively obscene spam emails. I know they came as the result of joining the group because many of them used my Yahoo! username. They claimed I'd put an ad on Craigs list (which perhaps surprisingly I'd never heard of). Not much you can do about this apart from installing a spam filter, but I thought maybe others had been similarly afflicted and were wondering why.

I was wondering where I was getting all that spam all of the sudden!

I couldn't think of anything I did to get it.

David,

I've been in this group for some time without receiving any spam. Starting
last Thursday (6 Oct), I've received a number of porn/spam messages in my
Gmail account for the first time. I don't think it's anything to do with
this group.

Your email client (or webmail) should provide junk/spam filtering. I know
that OS X Mail and Gmail both do.

That's when it started for me. I was shocked to see it all of a sudden. It seems like it is subsiding. I wish I knew how to report it or get it to stop.

I apologize to everyone but the group was somehow compromised
about when your all saying. We had hoped it was not widespread
but it seems like it might be.

Brent has contacted Yahoo to try to track this person down as
it IS a member of the group, probably a new one that joined
around the time this all started.

It seems all the emails were from hotmail.com and if your using
gmail, you can setup a filter to block them out until we get
this figured out.

Yes, if your using gmail, setup a filter to block hotmail.com
just for now. I was getting them almost 1 per minute on the
first day so I had to do that. I also check email at work and
better to block all hotmail then have this show up.

I also have been getting these, and have contacted CL and told their legal dept. Having no resolution, I now redirect all the spam to legal@Craigslist.com.

I figure if anyone can post ads on Craigslist and not do a better job at security, they may as well share the wealth, so to speak.

These emails started about less than a week ago.

Viewing the 'Long Headers and raw source, they are going to my me.com email, which is what I use at yahoogroups.

I am a member of several groups, so it would be hard to pin it on just ONE group. I have been in THIS group for ages and never got any crud like this until a little under a week ago.

The iPhone 4 at 8 GB is $99 which is releasing Friday. I ordered that yesterday. But the iPhone 16 and 32 GB are marked down as closeouts and the 16 GB now goes for 149.00. I am assumeing that is what the OP purchased.

iPhone 4S devices in pre-orders, over one million of them. The previous
record was from last year⒠s iPhone 4 launch which totaled over 600,000

this year⒠s launch, including Verizon and Sprint in the U.S., but that

You may want to check out Radio Shack. Yeah, I know, but a couple of months
ago I went in looking for a cable and got to talking with the clerk. They
were going to give my husband $18 for his 3GS which has pieces of the glass
missing because he's dropped it so much. They wanted to give me $280 for my
pristine Iphone 4. I don't know if they have preorders or will even have
phones on the 14th but it's something to look into.

My husband will be getting the new 4S since he's been waiting for months for
it to come out, but we will get it at Apple since he has an $80 Apple gift
card.

I'm a new member and am looking for a good place to get recommendations or
reviews of iPhone apps. Is that one of the purposes of this group?

Specifically, I'm looking for a good contact manager to sync with Outlook.
I'd also like to be able to search the database for a word(s) which might
appear in any field, ie 'carpet' or 'tile' or 'flooring' or 'piano', or part
of a phone number, ie 0818.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
