iPhone 4S and Siri shown off in 9-minute YouTube review [video]

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: iPhone 4S and Siri
shown off in 9-minute YouTube review [video] via BGR: The Three Biggest
Letters In Tech by Zach Epstein on 10/11/11

A short video showcasing Apple's new iPhone 4S surfaced on Monday, and
now we have our first full "YouTube review" of a handset that was
seemingly delivered ahead of schedule. YouTube user applemastertouch
has posted a video walk-through that is nearly 9 minutes long. In it,
he shows off Apple's brand new smartphone and gives us a thorough look
at the device's most highly anticipated new feature, Siri. Other iOS 5
features make appearances as well, but Siri is the clear star of the
show as we see various commends that can — and cannot — be acted on by
Apple's new personal assistant feature. While over a million consumers
anxiously await delivery of their iPhone 4S handsets, hit the break for
a taste of things to come.

No official word but should be around 9am Pacific / 12pm Eastern - I
wouldn't be surprised if they roll out each region in 1/2 hour spans - it is
nearly a 1GB download and they have something like 250M up-gradable devices
(iPad & iPad 2s, iPod Touch 3 & 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 GSM & CDMA)

There should be the following updates for iCloud tomorrow as well:

Lion to 10.7.2 (went Gold Master 10/4)
iPhoto 9.2 for Photo Stream - last beta was September
iWork for iOS (Pages, Numbers, Keynote for iCloud syncing) - last beta was
10/1
iOS 5 for Apple TV (hasn't been a new beta since 8/31)

There will be an iTunes 10.5.1 that includes iTunes Match before the end of
October it is in beta now.

I'm sure I am forgetting a couple of things but point is there will be a lot
of updates this week.

AppleCare+ For iPhone 4S: What You Need To Know

Posted by: "Brent" flapdoodle@gmail.com   flapdoodle44

Tue Oct 11, 2011 2:04 pm (PDT)

Sent to you by Brent via Google Reader: AppleCare+ For iPhone 4S: What
You Need To Know via App Advice by Bryan M. Wolfe on 10/11/11

Last week, we told you about AppleCare+, a new warranty program coming
for the iPhone beginning October 14. Now, we've got some additional
information for you, especially for those customers that preordered an
iPhone 4S, but didn't order AppleCare+ at the same time.

As a review, the new $99 package extends your iDevice's repair coverage
and technical support to two years from the original purchase date. In
addition, it adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage
due to handling, with each subject to a $49 service fee.

In making its original announcement, Apple discontinued its $69
AppleCare program for the iPhone. This program, while less expensive,
didn't include coverage for accidental damage.

Here are the new details since our first report.

First, according to MacRumors, AppleCare+ means a change in how Genius
Bar handle damaged devices.

They state:

Previously, Genius Bar staff had some flexibility in waiving the $199
out-of-warranty replacement fee as a "one-time exception", giving
customers a free replacement for a damaged phone. With the shift to
AppleCare+, Genius Bar staff will no longer have the option of offering
free replacements, so customers who have been aware of Apple's informal
replacement policy should be mindful of the change.

In addition, there seems to have been some confusion on exactly when
AppleCare+ was to have been purchased for new iPhone 4S orders. Apple
had stated this had to be done at the same time an iPhone 4S was
ordered. Unfortunately, this isn't possible through AT&T, Sprint, and
Verizon. As such, Apple has revised its policy, according to Tuaw.

They state:

If you want to buy AppleCare+ to cover a phone purchased from a carrier
or one where you neglected to buy it when purchasing from Apple, just
walk on in to an Apple retail store within 30 days of your purchase and
ask for help from any sales person. You do not have to make a Genius
Bar appointment. This is a one-time exception to the policy requiring
simultaneous phone & AppleCare purchasing.

For those that don't live near an Apple Store, our advice is to contact
Apple directly as soon as your iPhone 4S arrives. Apple Care's number
is 800-275-2273. Most likely, they will allow you to make an AppleCare+
purchase over the phone, as long as your iPhone is less than 30 days
old.

Windows 7 64 bit - Problem installing iTunes 10.5

Posted by: "inphasefive" skirbyiphone@gmail.com   inphasefive

Tue Oct 11, 2011 2:23 pm (PDT)

I download iTunes 10.5 for W7 64 bit and it made an error when installing. I then tried to repair which seemed to run fine but iTunes would not run. I then had to uninstall and go out on the net to find 10.4. Fortunately it installed ok and I am back to where I started. Kinda scary!

Not too crazy about trying again. Has anybody else installed on W7, 64 bit?
