It is only on iPhone but it is there, with phone locked press home button
twice rapidly and it will be right beside slide to unlock.

Definitely the same, Roger. I updated last night and have the same version number. :)

Thanks, very useful info.

My basic issue is that each time I attempt to use iCloud for back-up , I
received a message saying it failed. I am using a wi-fi connection, not
sure why it will not connect.

iOS 5 taking all night

I literally had my iPhone connected all night to do this upgrade -- and it still hasn't finished. Any thoughts? An upgrade shouldn't be this challenging.

Cancel it and restart, Apple's servers were hammered yesterday - >~150
devices upgrading iOS, Lion upgrades, etc - they really should have done one
thing a day - made sure Lion, iTunes, etc were all upgraded before Weds them
rolled out iOS updates on device by device throughout the day....

I thought you guys and gals would be interested in this. This morning I drove the 15 minutes down to Apples brand new data center here in NC. I had not been there so didn't know what to expect. Was going to take some pictures.... forget it. It is a huge complex I think. Maybe the size of a regional Walmart or Target distribution center. There are NO SIGNS at all. Only 2 guard gates one after the other. There is a berm built about 10 feet high all the way around the entire complex. Looks like a top secret military base. You cannot see anything. There is even a 2nd berm inside offset so that you cant see anything through the gate. A brand new volunteer fire dept is built next door. Also they have built a barb wire fence about 50 ft out from the berm so you cant walk up on it and look. and some kind of evergreen trees are planted on top of the berm that presumably will grow together. Quite a site.

Yep, The "Area 51/Groom Lake" of Apple. I cannot say I blame them on the top-notch security. Can you imagine the hell to pay of anyone got in and compromised data?

Glad to hear this, but sorry the photoshoot was a no go :-(

My download of the software was 90+ minutes (1.5 DSL). Then install of
SWare. I had to restore from a backup for some reason and to do that on a
32GB phone took all night. I was afraid to stop it (live 4 hours one way
from Apple store) and it was still running, app by app, song by song, so
just let it run. Finished at 8 this AM.

Bill this is all very useful info about photo streaming.

I had a question and assuming that if I am on a vacation and taking lots of photos and don't want to upload all my images to the cloud, can I avoid doing this by importing the camera images to a laptop via the camera cable or SD card to a folder on that laptop and NOT into iPhoto?

Is this upload to cloud basically done only through iPhoto app on device or program on laptop?

Is there also an option to turn off this streaming ability somewhere in preferences on our devices? I am also assuming that if I have my iPhone in airplane mode while overseas (to avoid large data download fees and roaming) that this would not prevent all the photos I take with my iPhone to be synced when I am on wifi connection?

Lastly, have you set up cloud for yourself and is it working sufficiently to do suggest that I should try it as well?

Thanks
joan

Photostream is built into the new version of photo as well and it says it
will delete all photo stream photos not all photos.

I just upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5, and my spouse is going to be
getting an iPhone 4S tomorrow. With this iMessage feature I keep
hearing about, is it finally time for me to ditch my text messaging
plan completely so I can save roughly $20 a month? More »

5 Quick iMessage Tips and Tricks

5 Quick iMessage Tips and
Tricks<http://ismashphone.com/2011/10/5-quick-imessage-tips-and-tricks.html>
BY 8BITJAY <http://ismashphone.com/author/jacob-lopez>
 10/13/2011*POSTED IN: *IOS <http://ismashphone.com/ios>

[image: iMessage]<http://ismashphone.com/2011/09/ipod-touch-3g-why-it-makes-sense.html/imessage>

iMessage was released as part of iOS
5<http://ismashphone.com/2011/10/having-fun-with-imessage-ipad-to-iphone.html>.
Its a great application and it makes keeping in touch with friends a bit
easier, especially if they have an iOS device. For instance, one of our
buddies as at work chatting with us from his iPad. He was able to continue
the conversation on his iPhone when he left for lunch.

Lets take a look at some simple tips and tricks for iMessage. At the very
least, things you should know about it.

*1) Typing Shortcuts*

This is one of the coolest features of iMessage. For instance, if you type
OMW (or omw, Omw whatever works) the device will autofill with On my way!
This is very cool for quick typing. We havent found any other shortcuts
like this one, but weve found out how to edit them and create more. Thats
next.

*2) Create Shortcuts*

You can create your own such shortcuts. Do this by going to *General >
Keyboard > Shortcuts *This has omw for On My Way. You can tap on Add New
Shortcut to create new ones. For instance, you can make a phrase like Be
right back. from brb and anything else of the sort. OTL can be Out to
lunch, etc. Pretty cool.

* a) Go to General under settings.*

**[image: iMessage-1] <http://ismashphone.com/?attachment_id=42444>

*b) Under Genera, go to keyboard:*

*[image: iMessage-2] <http://ismashphone.com/?attachment_id=42445>*

* c) Go to Shortcuts*

[image:
iMessage-3]<http://ismashphone.com/?attachment_id=42446>

* d) And from there, Add New Sh0rtcut. Type the Phrase you want and the
shortcut you want to use to say it:*

[image: iMessage-4] <http://ismashphone.com/?attachment_id=42447>

*3) Worth Knowing*

iMessage does not work if the other person does not have iOS 5 or above. You
will be able to send them an SMS from your iPhone if they are also on an
iPhone. However, if you have iMessage and they do not, their iPhone cannot
receive a message from your iPad as if it were an SMS.

*4) Group Messaging*

You can do group messaging in iMessage. This is as easy as creating an
iMessage session and adding all the users you want to include in the chat.
Again, they must have iMessage, so this may not be all that commonly used
until all your friends have the service.

*5) Know Where the Message is Coming From*

[image: iMessage
iPhone]<http://ismashphone.com/2011/10/having-fun-with-imessage-ipad-to-iphone.html/imessage-iphone>

Another cool thing about iMessage is the indicators that let you know that
both users are on the service. The speech bubbles will be blue and it will
say iMessage in the input field. This is nice, because you can know whether
or not you are going to be paying standard text rates or if you are using up
your limit of SMS messaging. It may not be a huge deal to some who have
unlimited texting, but if you have, say 200, this is makes a lot of
difference.

*More to Discover?*

Were sure there will be more to discover soon. We just hope that Apple
decides to add iMessage to Mac OS. That would be a nice addition as iOS
users and Mac users would all be able to talk. No one would be out of reach!
Might be a bad thing
