And you can modify which apps access notification and how they do so in the "Settings" app's "Notifications" section.

syncing and updating via Macworld by Serenity Caldwell on 10/15/11
One of the best parts of iOS 5 is that you no longer have to connect
your device to your Mac or PC when you want to sync your information or
download a subsequent software update. Here's how it works.

Things you can do from here:
- Subscribe to Macworld using Google Reader
- Get started using Google Reader to easily keep up with all your
favorite sites

Have you enabled in iTunes settings > Summary when you connect each time and
then apply changes?

I'm not 100% thrilled about it as it changes they way things have to be done
in MS Outlook but can't complain - I changed a couple of things and within
seconds all my other devices had the change too!

Syncing calendar

Posted by: "Susan Ferraglio" bladessf@aol.com   bladessf2000

Dear all - this is an elementary embarrassing question. - I set up iCloud on my Pc. When I used mobile me I could sync the calendar with the iPhone. I don't use outlook much at all.
Now when I try to sync the calendar in outlook with the phones I get the error message that an active email is needed in outlook. Question - how do I set it up?? I logged into windows live and put in my email address but when I go to iCloud I get the same error.
I know it is simple but outlook is hardly ever opened.
Thanks do much

When I go into account settings on iCloud from my iPhone, it shows the apple ID as the email address I had set up originally under mobile me in February, but the email is listed as the new @me I created after the iOS 5 update. Is this supposed to happen?

Re: Verizon or AT&T or?...that is the question

I asked a similar question a few days ago looking for CDMA vs GSM experiences. After considering the wide range of responses and the pricing/coverage of all the carriers (AT&T, Sprint & Verizon) I have gone with Sprint. Here's why:

1. Dropped calls on AT&T are a continuing issue. I live in metro Atlanta and the coverage here is fair and spotty in many areas.

2. Coverage on CDMA vs. GSM is much better on a national basis. Sprint has roaming agreements with most of the other CDMA carriers and unlimited roaming is included in the price package. Also, with the 4S, I can always get a GSM SIM chip if I travel away from CDMA territory so that offers me flexibility.

3. Price, AT&T and Sprint are very close in price, around $75-80/month. But, Sprint offers unlimited data and texting in that price package (450 minutes for both) but on Sprint those minutes only really apply to calls to/from landline phones. They also do not charge for mobile to mobile calls regardless of carriers involved.

4. I spoke with friends who have Sprint service and were very pleased.

So yesterday I ordered a 4S, with 32MB of RAM in black. I should have it on Tuesday. Hope I was right.

I think you will be fine. I had similar thoughts and same experience with
ATT
and went to Sprint almost exactly one year ago. I have had no problems and
could have went to any carrier as my contract is up now but stayed with
Sprint.

Stayed too because great price and unlimited data. I tether from my EVO a
lot.

I hope you are happy too....

I have been in the telecom industry since touchtone was first introduced.
And nothing works everywhere.

I travel to various locations. I look to see what the coverage it between
here and there.

I have some friends who have sprint....and the same answer is what I get
from others. 'depends where you are".

I will say....that I think all service is getting better.

I have AT&T....and the talk data at same time is my draw.

Thanks

Bill

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that there was a difference between the
two phones as far as the sim. So, what should I do first? Should I back up
my 4, back up his 3Gs, wipe them both and then go to the phone store or can
the cards be switched before I wipe them?

Thanks!!

I think I lucked out and just hopes it keeps going
but I got my laptop to work and am syncing now. I
didn't do anything to it so I know its temporary and
going to try to also backup some stuff.

I know with iOS5 it can backup to the iCloud, if my
computer totally dies will all my data and apps be

Initial "hiccups" setting up new iphone 4S -long post

Posted by: "sandyinwi" sandywright11@gmail.com   sandyinwi

Sat Oct 15, 2011 8:17 am (PDT)

my new iphone 4s arrived yesterday while I was at work --Punchline: all is now great! But if anyone is interested in the hiccups along the way, here is the story: There were 2, I had confusion inputting my user ID and I had No 3G service!! The latter was fixed by rebooting the phone (hold sleep/wake and home buttons down til display goes dark and apple logo appears)
Here are the details:
--putting the signed pre-approval worked fine, and they left the box on our porch. I had already upgraded itunes. When I turned it on it had nearly a full battery and showed a screen asking if I wanted to set it up. Cool. Based on some link I read I said I wanted to set this up as a new phone which I think may have been a mistake. May have been better to just say I was going to go from iTunes backup.-All went well until I put in my existing Apple userid and password and then on the next screen I got some message about how for security they wanted an entire email address. SO I put in my email address and then when I put in the password I got some message about how the account was already in use and did I want my password reset. SO I ended up going back a couple of screens and putting in the email address where I had first put in my regular Apple userid and was able to continue. --Seemed like all went well, and I had to go out for the evening. ===The phone worked, so I could call to say I would be late. (hah)

When I got back it was late and I just mainly curled up with my ipad (I know, lucky girl) to read but when I went to download the new ios5 manual it asked what account ID the one with my usual userid or the email address I'd provided earlier that evening. I first said the email address --that was a mistake. I could download nothing. Then I figured out I could log out of the ibook store and I logged back in with my usual user id and all was well again.

This morning I plugged it in to the computer and synced with itunes -Worked FINE. BUT--still no 3g. --That was alarming and once they opened I got on "technical chat" with an AT & T representative. --She had me do a reboot where I held down the home button and the wake-up button simultaneously until the apple logo shows up and the phone restarts. (I had to hold down for a long while First the "slide to power off" option comes up but eventually it went black and the logo appeared.) I had not tried that on my own with the new phone. -After it rebooted the 3G was there, and worked fine. --So lovely to have a speedier responsive phone (the lag on the 3g was often so long) and the camera seems terrific. If anyone has any questions send them my way.

My husband & I asked Siri some crazy questions we had heard someone else ask just to see if the answers were the same...some of them changed. One was "siri, what is your name?" she answered with "what is my name?" (with an indignant attutude) Siri. (with a duh you idiot tone to her voice) lol Another One that we said was "I love you". Siri said "all you need is love. And your iPhone." lol

iCloud.com calendar date

When I log into iCloud.com on a computer, the calendar date on the main page keeps reading Tuesday the 9th regardless of the actual date. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
