Hidden Panorama Mode Uncovered in the iOS Camera

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 06:02 PM PST

Developer and hacker conradev has uncovered a hidden panorama mode in the iOS Camera app. By changing a key value in the iOS SDK, a Panorama mode is unlocked in the Camera app that lets iPhone users capture a panorama image by snapping photos continually from left to right.

While it’s unclear as to why this feature is hidden in iOS, it can only be assumed that Apple will eventually release it to the public in due time.(...)

Hacker Uncovers Serious iOS Security Flaw

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 03:52 PM PST

If there’s one thing about iOS that even the skeptics can agree on, it’s how much more secure it is than Android. Several security firms have found that Apple’s mobile platform has far less malware than its Google-backed competitor.

The reason behind this is Apple’s “walled garden” approach it takes with app approvals. Applications are thoroughly screened, and must meet certain criteria, before they are allowed in the App Store. But apparently there’s a major loophole in the process…(...)

Mark Zuckerberg Says He Received Advice from Steve Jobs

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 03:21 PM PST

In an interview with Charlie Rose that’s airing tonight, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg says that Steve Jobs advised him on company focus and other matters.

Facebook Inc. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs advised him on how to sharpen his company's focus and build the right management team for the world's largest social network.

"I had a lot of questions for him," Zuckerberg said in an interview with Charlie Rose that's due to air today. The topics included, "how to build a team around you that's focused on building as high quality and good things as you are."

Jobs and Zuckerberg also talked about "the aesthetics and kind of mission orientation of companies," Zuckerberg said in the interview with Charlie Rose.

Steve Jobs said in his biography that he admired Zuckerberg for not “selling out,” and even though both men didn’t always see eye to eye, it is evident they had great respect for each other.

Siri Has Been Successfully Ported to the iPhone 3GS

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 01:51 PM PST

Siri has certainly been at the forefront of tech news over the last few weeks. Since Apple introduced the digital assistant at its iPhone 4S event in October, it seems to be everyone’s favorite subject. And the question on everyone’s mind is, can it be ported to other devices?

To make a long story short, yes, it can. Although it’s not available to the public (and likely won’t be for some time, if ever), developers have managed to successfully port Siri to the iPhone 4. And as we’ve seen, it works really well. But why stop there?(...)

Why Apple Won’t Bring Siri to the iPhone 4

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 12:15 PM PST

There’s been a lot of speculation lately that Apple’s new digital assistant, Siri, might be on its way to other devices. And given the evidence we’ve seen that Siri works fine on the iPhone 4, and that Apple’s been testing it on the old handset, it’s a fairly reasonable assumption.

But just as there are reasons why Apple could port Siri to older devices, there are several why it won’t. We initially thought that this was fairly obvious, but since 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman felt the need to clear the air, we figured we should do the same for our readers…(...)

In theory, a jailbreak tweak like TweetBoard sounds great. Viewing all of your Twitter information from the comforts of your Lock screen is one of the reasons that IntelliScreen X is so highly anticipated.

But the problem with TweetBoard is that it’s half-baked. As it turns out, you can’t actually view your timeline from your Lock screen at all, only your particular tweets.

Inside we take a look at this promising, but ultimately disappointing jailbreak tweak for iOS 5…(...)
